The National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) recently honored 23 public broadcasters, including KET, with awards. KET won the NETA Award in the instructional media/teacher resource category for Literacy Leadership: Stories of Schoolwide Success and in the promotion/new media category for the Our Kentucky Flickr photo contest.
Literacy Leadership, the last in a series of three multimedia professional development resources produced jointly by the Kentucky Department of Education and KET, helps K-12 administrators improve their schools’ literacy instruction.
Calling the educational tool “original” and “inspiring,” a panel of industry experts praised Literacy Leadership, with one judge adding, “The project collects and organizes in an intuitive way real-life advice from teachers and principals and real-world application strategies for education.”
And, to promote Our Kentucky, which premiered in Spring 2009, KET launched a photo contest on Flickr, asking viewers to submit their favorite photos of the Commonwealth. The judges noted that the project “gathered users’ interest, and enhanced the community aspect of KET.”
“KET is honored to be recognized at this year’s NETA awards,” said Shae Hopkins, KET’s executive director. “Congratulations to KET’s staff, who have reached out to Kentuckians with effective educational tools and exciting community engagement projects.”
In all, NETA awarded 30 trophies in the areas of program production, promotion, outreach and instructional media. The celebratory presentation was part of NETA’s annual conference, held this year in
