Louisville Life meets antiques expert Wes Cowan, visits ‘crazy’ mall, learns about Simmons College

The next edition of Louisville Life features a native Louisvillian who can often be spotted on PBS, a mall for antique lovers, Simmons College of Kentucky and much more. The program, hosted by Candyce Clifft, airs Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. CT on KET2; Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7/6 p.m. CT on KET; and Sunday, Feb. 28 at noon/11 a.m. CT on KET2.

First, Wes Cowan is a PBS regular, appearing on both Antiques Roadshow and History Detectives. Louisville Life travels to Cincinnati to check out Cowan’s auction business. He talks about life on television and at the auction podium, as well as growing up in Louisville’s Highlands neighborhood.

Next, it’s off to Crazy Daisy Antique Mall, which is home to 100 furniture and collectibles booths. Products range from early primitive through 1960s vintage. Along with Kentucky-made collectibles, customers can find majolica pottery, books, visual art and Victorian and art deco jewelry.

Then, Louisville Life looks at Simmons College of Kentucky (originally Kentucky Normal and Theological Institute), the Commonwealth’s first higher education institute owned, controlled and financially supported by African Americans.

Also, Linda Wilson, spokesperson for the YMCA Black Achievers Program and this year’s Adult Black Achiever, joins Candyce in the studio. She discusses the organization’s goals of enhancing the academic, personal and career development of African-American youth.

Finally, Louisville Life visits the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), a Catholic, Irish-American fraternal organization founded in the 1800s. Louisville Life discusses the AOH’s historic past and modern relevance with President Mark Wakefield and Officer Kelly McKnight.
