Maude Teegarden, who has actively supported KET for the past 25 years, has been honored with the 2011 O. Leonard Press Award. The award was presented at the September Friends of KET Board meeting at KET Network Center in Lexington.
Established in honor of KET’s founder, this special recognition is presented to an individual who has provided exemplary volunteer service and demonstrated commitment to perpetuating KET’s mission of making Kentucky a better place.
As a Friends of KET Board member, Teegarden, of Germantown, has participated in countless TeleFund events to raise revenue to support educational initiatives and quality programming and has spoken frequently about the important services to schools and families KET provides her home region.
“Maude, or ‘Maudie,’ as we affectionately call her, is a tireless advocate and a faithful leader,” says KET executive director Shae Hopkins. “For 25 years, Maudie has committed her time, energies and her treasures to the ideals of bringing education and opportunity to the citizens of this state, and we’re proud to be able to honor her for all that she’s done.”
In recent years, her volunteer activities include organizing and hosting a “Listening Tour”; organizing community engagement around the premiere of the special documentary Dr. Clark’s Treasures and a special event honoring veterans; presenting the documentary Thoroughbred to the Rotary Club of Maysville and the Woman’s Club; and uniting area residents around the topic of health as KET works to educate citizens. She has also volunteered to staff KET outreach exhibits at State Fair booths and elsewhere.
