Winner of six Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Miniseries, and hailed by critics as “impossible to resist” and “compulsively watchable from the get-go,” Masterpiece Classic “Downton Abbey” returns for a second season. The seven-part series airs Sundays, Jan. 8 – Feb. 19 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET and Thursdays, Jan. 12 – Feb. 23 at 9/8 p.m. CT on KET2. The story of Downton Abbey begins in 1912 as the Titanic goes down, resulting in Lord Grantham losing his immediate heirs and his daughter Mary losing her fiancé. The new heir turns out to be Matthew, a lowly lawyer with novel ideas about country life. Now two years into World War I, Downton Abbey is in turmoil as Matthew and other young men go to war, or try to avoid it. The women also pitch in, and many couples see their romantic dreams dashed. The program stars Hugh Bonneville, Dame Maggie Smith and Elizabeth McGovern. Masterpiece Classic “Downton Abbey” is produced by WGBH in Boston.
