For Release: 2012-07-31 09:17:00

The Ohio Valley Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded KET productions and programs seven Regional Emmy Awards at a ceremony on Saturday, July 28.

Matt Grimm won in the “Magazine Feature/Segment” category for the Kentucky Life segment “Memorials,” which features Kentuckians who are commemorating loss and finding hope through the creation of memorials and sculpture, specifically to mark the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001 and the 2006 Comair Flight 5191 plane crash in Lexington. Kentucky Life is KET’s award-winning magazine program exploring the state’s people, places and heritage.

Carl Babcock and Deidre Clark won in the “Special Event Coverage” category for the KET election-season production Gubernatorial Inauguration 2011.

Laura Krueger and John Bacon won in the “Health/Science/Environment - Program” category for More Than Child’s Play: Why Physical Activity Matters. This KET production explores all the ways in which society both helps and hinders physical activity in children and points the way toward greater opportunities for all children to be physically active.

Tim Farmer won in the “Program Host/Moderator/Narrator” category for his work as host of Kentucky Afield, a weekly program produced by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources.

Amy Hess, co-host of the upcoming KET series Kentucky Collectibles, won in the “Magazine Program” category for the program Go Local, which airs on KET and is produced by Beloved Productions and Eppic Films.

Bluegrass & Backroads, produced by Kentucky Farm Bureau, won in the “Magazine Feature/Segment” category for a segment of the program.

And Douglas Smith, Heidi Thiel and Ben Jackey won in the “Education/Schools – Program” category for Our Kids, a program produced by Jefferson County Public Schools.

“It’s an honor for public television to receive seven Regional Emmy awards,” said KET Executive Director Shae Hopkins. “KET’s staff and our producing partners are so dedicated and talented, and we’re honored that everyone’s hard work for all Kentuckians is seen as exemplary.”

The Ohio Valley Regional Emmy Awards recognize excellence in the areas of local news, programming and individual achievement and are considered to be one of the industry's highest honors. The Ohio Valley Chapter includes 13 television markets from a four-state region, including parts of Ohio, West Virginia, Indiana and Kentucky.
