For Release: 2012-09-17 16:27:00Nedski and Mojo, known for their banjo-guitar and mandolin-guitar duets, performs with Jana Mougin on the next edition of Jubilee, recorded live at the third-annual International Newgrass Festival in Bowling Green, KY. The program premieres Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 8/7 p.m. CT on KET and Saturday, Oct. 13 at 11/10 p.m. CT on KET2. Ned Luberecki, banjoist for Chris Jones & The Night Drivers and Sirius XM bluegrass DJ, and Stephen Mougin, guitarist and vocalist with the Sam Bush Band, make up Nedski & Mojo. Jana Mougin, formerly lead singer with the popular European bluegrass band Fragment, is Stephen’s wife. Mougin and Luberecki, who both live in Nashville, became friends while seeing each other often at recording sessions. Though hired by different people and not hired to play together, they and their families began hanging out and spending time together socially, and then the musical collaborations followed. Luberecki says that although the duo is certainly influenced by bluegrass, their music is hard to classify, with its sound also heavily influenced by blues and country. “We both love bluegrass music and think of the classic bluegrass bands like Bill Monroe and the Blue Grass Boys and Flatt & Scruggs and Jimmy Martin with the full band. For a bluegrass band to exist, there’s a bass and guitar and banjo and mandolin and fiddle,” said Luberecki in a Jubilee interview. “We certainly do a few songs that are bluegrass, and it’s hard to deny being bluegrass influenced when one of the instruments you play is a banjo,” he adds. Newgrass founder Sam Bush joins the trio on stage for several performances. Nedski and Mojo with Jana perform, among other songs: “Another Way to Get to You,” “Take the Good with the Bad,” “The Cabin of Death,” and “Field of Gold.” Members of Nedski and Mojo with Jana include: Luberecki on banjo/vocals; Jana Mougin on bass/vocals; Stephen Mougin on guitar/vocals; and special guest Bush on mandolin. Jubilee is a KET production. Nick Helton is the producer/director and Teresa Day is the executive producer. More information about Jubilee, including streaming video, is available at ket.org/jubilee.
