Act of Congress, an acoustic band from Birmingham, AL, performs on the next edition of Jubilee, recorded live at the third-annual International Newgrass Festival in Bowling Green, KY. The program premieres Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 8/7 p.m. on KET and Saturday, Nov. 17 at 11/10 p.m. on KET2. The organic sound of Act of Congress combines hook-laden melodies, compelling songwriting and acoustic instrumentation that are rapidly attracting attention across the United States. With a sound considered a mixture of pop, Americana and acoustic rock, the band has performed for XM Radio, SXSW, Disney, NPR and Billboard, among others and has opened shows for John Mayer, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith and Edwin McCain. In 2011, Act of Congress performed its original music with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra. The band also performed with country music star Sara Evans and was voted one of the must-see acts of Alabama. Jubilee is a KET production. Nick Helton is the producer/director and Teresa Day is the executive producer. More information about Jubilee, including streaming video, is available at ket.org/jubilee.
