The next Louisville Life, hosted by Candyce Clifft, explores Hadley Pottery, Rooibee Red Tea, Louisville-native ballerina Wendy Whelan, and Fund for the Arts. The program premieres Saturday, Jan. 5 at 7/6 p.m. on KET and Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. on KET2.

Owing to the abundance of ancient clay deposits in the region, Louisville has been a center of pottery making for generations. Out of this proud tradition, Mary Alice Hadley established Hadley Pottery, one of Louisville’s most iconic and well-known potteries. Since 1940, Hadley Pottery has continued to create handmade pottery that remains largely the same as when the company began.

Next, Rooibee Red Tea, a relatively new Louisville business, is producing bottled teas that are getting national buzz. Louisville Life explores the roots of this beverage startup and finds out why remaining local is important to its founders.

In the studio, Clifft talks with Barbara Sexton Smith, president and CEO of Fund for the Arts, the oldest united arts fund in the country that has raised more than $180 million since its establishment in 1949. In 2012, the Fund for the Arts awarded 417 grants to various organizations throughout the region to provide financing for arts experiences and administrative support.

Also on this program, Louisville Life gives a sneak peek at the upcoming January 11 Kentucky Muse featuring New York City Ballet principal dancer and Louisville native Wendy Whelan.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is co-producer, and Angelic Phelps is associate producer.
