Next Kentucky Life sits down with Downton Abbey actress and Lexington native Lucille Sharp and more

For Release: 2013-01-02 10:20:00

The next Kentucky Life, hosted by Dave Shuffett, sits down with Lucille Sharp, an actress from Lexington who has a role in this season’s “Downton Abbey.” Other highlights include the Grant County community of Crittenden, learns how the fort-named towns of Northern Kentucky got those names, and gets to know the award-winning and inspiring work of Louisville artist Trent Altman. The program airs Saturday, Jan. 26 at 8/7 p.m. CT and Sunday, Jan. 27 at 4/3 p.m. CT on KET.

Actress Lucille Sharp from Lexington landed a role on the third season of the hit Masterpiece series “Downton Abbey,” which premieres January 6. Kentucky Life caught up with Sharp while she was home for the holidays and talked with her about being part of a show that’s become such a pop culture phenomenon.

Next, during what is known as the Confederate Heartland Offensive, or Kentucky Campaign, of the Civil War, volunteers and Union soldiers constructed rifle pits and earthwork fortifications along eight miles of hilltops in Northern Kentucky. Today, almost all that remains of these battlements are the towns named for them. The program discovers more about these defensive fortifications and the tactical advantage they provided to the Union army, the Northern Kentucky area and the city of Cincinnati.

Also on this program, the award-winning work of Louisville artist Trent Altman is featured. Altman’s abstract expressionist pieces and mixed media collages shimmer with energy, and they brought him international acclaim in summer 2012 when his work was selected for a United Nations stamp.

In addition, this program’s Our Town segment visits the Grant County community of Crittenden, where progress continues on the cleanup and rebuilding from the March 2012 tornado.

Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Brandon Wickey. Segment producers are Paul Smith, John Schroering, Tom Bickel and Valerie Trimble.
