For Release: 2013-01-02 10:15:00The next Louisville Life, hosted by Candyce Clifft, takes a look back at the history of Barney Brightís Louisville Clock and its restoration, profiles architect Bill Weyland, interviews the University of Louisvilleís Shirley Willihnganz and visits River City Winery. The program premieres Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7/6 p.m. on KET and Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. on KET2. Officially dedicated in 1976 on the River City Mall in downtown Louisville, the Louisville Clock was designed by the late Barney Bright, a Louisville artist who wanted the clock to emphasize Kentucky cultural figures and to be a larger-than-life mechanical toy. However, shortly after it was built, the clock began to have mechanical issues, and by the early 1980s, it was removed. In March 2004, the Adam Matthews Foundation began restoration of the historic Louisville landmark at Bowman Field, and with the help of volunteers and supporters, the clock is now back home on 4th Street. Next, Louisville Life profiles Bill Weyland, a local architect and developer whose vision for downtown Louisville includes the Glassworks building, the Henry Clay and the new Whiskey Row project. Also on this program, Louisville Life explores River City Winery, located in New Albany, Ind., which became the first Indiana winery to win Wine of the Year honors at the prestigious Indy International Wine Competition. In the studio, Clifft talks with Shirley Willihnganz, provost of the University of Louisville. As chief academic officer, she has oversight of undergraduate, graduate and professional education at the university. Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is co-producer, and Angelic Phelps is associate producer. More information about Louisville Life, including streaming video, is available at ket.org/loulife.
