For Release: 2013-01-28 16:22:00The next Kentucky Life, hosted by Dave Shuffett, features NPRís Moth Radio Hour in Louisville, the music of Lexington-based band Coralee and The Townies, Newportís Gangsters Dueling Piano Bar, the famous Moonbow at Cumberland Falls, and the history of the Night Rider movement. The program airs Saturday, Feb. 23 at 8/7 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24 at 4/3 p.m. on KET. Kentucky Life spends an evening at Headliners Music Hall in Louisville for the popular once-a-month StorySLAM, a part of the Peabody Award-winning NPR Moth Radio Hour in which people share with a live audience true five-minute stories from their lives. Audience members serve as judges, and one winner is selected from among the storytellers. Then, in Caldwell County, a historical marker recounts the history of the Night Rider movement begun by Dr. David Amoss, who organized growers of dark tobacco against an unfair tobacco monopoly in the early 1900s. Next, Lexington-based band Coralee and the Townies describe their original tunes and sound as honky tonk soul. Coraleeís dynamic vocals, compelling lyrics and the solid musicianship of the band have won them critical praise and a steadily increasing fan base. This segment features footage from a performance at Willie¬ís Locally Known in Lexington. At Newport's Gangsters Dueling Piano Bar, bar patrons join the piano players for high energy sing-a-long fun. And Kentucky Life documents the famous moonbow at Cumberland Falls State Park in Whitley County. Visible on some moonlit evenings, the spectacular sight of the moonbow above the majestic falls attracts people from all over the world. Kentucky Life is a KET production, produced by Brandon Wickey. Segment producers are Jim Piston, John Schroering, Shuffett, Frank Simkonis and Brandon Wickey. More information about Kentucky Life, including streaming video, is available at ket.org/kentuckylife.
