Next Louisville Life features Apocalypse Brew Works, famous bartender Joy Perrine and more

For Release: 2013-01-28 16:22:00

The next Louisville Life, hosted by Candyce Clifft, hangs out with Joy Perrine, named a top bartender by Esquire Magazine, visits Apocalypse Brew Works, interviews president of the Young Professionals Association of Louisville, and explores the legacy of the Stitzel-Weller Distillery and Van Winkle family. The program premieres Saturday, Feb. 23 at 7/6 p.m. on KET and Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. on KET2.

Louisville Life profiles Joy Perrine, a bartender at Equus Restaurant & Jack’s Lounge, who was named a top bartender by Esquire Magazine in 2011. Perrine has been bartending for five decades and is co-author of The Kentucky Bourbon Cocktail Book. Perrine began bartending in the 1960s when there were very few female bartenders. Now, females represent more than 50 percent of the bartending industry.

Next, the program features Apocalypse Brew Works, Kentucky’s latest microbrewery. Their brewery and taproom, the Fallout Shelter, opened in May 2012, creating small-batch, fresh craft beer. They support sustainability with their solar-heated water, grain re-use, material recycling, and the use of found objects and equipment used to build their brewery.

Louisville Life also visits with “Pappy” Van Winkle’s granddaughter, Sally Van Winkle Campbell, to discuss her book, But Always Fine Bourbon, the legacy of the Stitzel-Weller Distillery, and the renowned bourbon of the Van Winkle family. Also, Michael Veach of the Filson Historical Society shares the importance of this family’s history to Kentucky bourbon.

In the studio, Clifft talks with Phillip Roberts, president of the Young Professionals Association of Louisville. YPAL has been the premier professional and social networking group for 20- and 30-somethings for more than a decade.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is co-producer, and Angelic Phelps is associate producer.
