For Release: 2014-02-25 12:12:00The February 23 season-four finale of the Masterpiece series Downton Abbey finished strong with an average national audience of 8.5 million viewers, an increase over the season three finale in 2013, which had 8.2 million viewers.
In addition, the January 5 season four premiere of Downton Abbey made ratings history nationally by becoming the highest-rated drama in PBS history with a Nielsen Live+7 household rating of 9.7 and an average audience of 15.5 million viewers who tuned in via their local PBS station. This viewing audience was a 39 percent increase over the audience for last year’s season three premiere.
For KET, viewership of the Downton Abbey season four premiere increased almost 35 percent over viewership for the season three premiere, making it one of the most-watched programs in KET’s history.
Overall, the fourth season’s eight-week run averaged 8.3 million viewers nationally each episode.
