On the next Great Conversations, Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC's Hardball, discusses his book Tip and the Gipper: When Politics Worked with E. J. Dionne, Jr., senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and syndicated columnist for The Washington Post. Great Conversations: Chris Matthews and E. J. Dionne, Jr. airs Monday, Jan. 6 at 10/9 p.m. on KET.

In Tip and the Gipper: When Politics Worked, Matthews offers a personal history of a time when two great political opponents – President Ronald Reagan and Speaker of the House Tip O’Neill – served together from 1980 to 1986 for the benefit of the country.

In the program, Matthews discusses his up-close view of the two political leaders’ relationship, from his role as a top aide to Speaker O’Neill. Dionne is heard weekly on NPR’s All Things Considered, covering “The Week in Politics” with David Brooks and Robert Siegel.

The program was recorded at Matthew’s recent appearance at the Kentucky Author Forum at the University of Louisville. Great Conversations: Chris Matthews and E. J. Dionne, Jr. is a KET production. Producer-director is Tom Bickel, and executive producer is Teresa Day. Kentucky Author Forum is produced by Mary Moss Greenebaum and is sponsored by the University of Louisville, in partnership with Brown-Forman and The Humana Foundation.
