Pressroom Search:
KET’s Bill Goodman to be inducted into Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame

For Release: 2013-03-12 14:06:00

KET public affairs host and managing editor Bill Goodman is one of five individuals selected to be inducted this year into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame.

The Kentucky Tonight host will join 184 other journalists previously inducted into the Hall of Fame since its inception in 1981.

“On behalf of everyone at KET, I congratulate Bill on this extraordinary honor,” said KET Executive Director Shae Hopkins. “While bringing an exceptional depth of knowledge to every subject he covers, Bill shines as an interviewer, masterfully eliciting thoughtful discussions and balancing multiple sides of often complex topics so that we, the public, can have a better understanding of the individual, story and issues. That’s no easy task, and Kentucky is better for his unwavering commitment and professionalism.”

Since 1996, Goodman has been the host and managing editor of the Emmy Award-winning public affairs series Kentucky Tonight. Additionally, he serves as host for Education Matters, along with a number of other public affairs specials, including KET’s election night coverage.

"For a person who makes his living from speaking, I find myself at a loss for the appropriate words to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation for my induction into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame," Goodman said. "Without the support and assistance of my family and the many colleagues who encouraged me along the way, I would not be here today. To the KET family and viewers, I say thank you – this honor belongs to you, as well.”

Goodman also hosts the compelling conversation series One to One. His guests have included legendary jockey Pat Day; Nikky Finney, poet, professor and recipient of the National Book Award for Poetry; Pulitzer Prize winner George Will; actor Richard Dreyfuss; current and former Kentucky political leaders; and many others. He is also the author of the KET blog “Bill’s Eye.”

A native of Glasgow, Ky., Goodman graduated from Western Kentucky University, and he recently earned an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from Spalding University. Prior to coming to KET, Goodman worked at TV stations in Nashville and Houston.

The induction ceremony will be held at a luncheon on April 23 at The Thoroughbred Center, 3380 Paris Pike, in Lexington. Selection of honorees is made by a committee representing the state’s media, the University of Kentucky, and the UK Journalism Alumni Association. A complete list of this year’s inductees can be found on the UK School of Journalism and Telecommunications website .
