KET announces 2013 holiday lineup

For Release: 2013-11-19 13:34:00

Exciting concerts, specials and children’s programs highlight KET’s 2013 holiday programming.

National Christmas Tree Lighting 2013 airs Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 9/8 p.m. on KET2. The program includes appearances and performances by some of the most recognizable names in entertainment, followed by the 91st annual lighting of the national Christmas tree.

Downton Abbey’s Hugh Bonneville stars in Mr. Stink, a family special with a nose-clenching twist. Chloe sees Mr. Stink every day, but she’s never spoken to him, which isn’t surprising, because he’s a tramp — and he stinks. But before she knows it, Chloe has an unusual friend hiding in her garden shed when it seems Mr. Stink and his stinky dog, Duchess, might be driven out of town. Mr. Stink airs Sunday, Dec. 22 at 8/7 p.m. on KET and Wednesday, Dec. 25 at 3/2 p.m. on KET2.

Christmas with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir airs Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 8/7 p.m. on KET2 and Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 9/8 p.m. on KET. Renowned TV personality Tom Brokaw and Tony Award-winning Les Misérables tenor Alfie Boe join for a concert of holiday favorites.

Kentucky programming is also celebrating the holidays this season. The concert choir and chamber singers of Murray State University perform seasonal tunes in The Holidays at Murray State on Sunday, Dec. 22 at 2/1 p.m. on KET and Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 8/7 p.m. on KET2.

In an encore presentation of a Kentucky Life holiday program airing Saturday, Dec. 21 at 8/7 p.m. on KET, host Dave Shuffett and the Kentucky Life crew visit KaLightoscope Christmas at the Galt House in Louisville, the annual Cave Sing at Mammoth Cave National Park, the Nativity Display at Maysville's Trinity Lutheran Church, and an “Our Town” segment visit to the seasonally appropriate town of Berry in Harrison County.

KET’s children’s programming also joins in the holiday cheer with Shalom Sesame – Chanukah: The Missing Menorah on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 9/8 a.m. on KET. In this program, it’s time to celebrate Chanukah in Israel. The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About Christmas! finds the Cat in the Hat, Nick, and Sally on a journey around the world to help a lost reindeer find his way home for Christmas. The program airs Wednesday, Nov. 27 at 8:30/7:30 a.m. and Tuesday, Dec. 24 at 8:30/7:30 a.m. on KET. Also, on Arthur’s Perfect Christmas, the residents of Elwood City get ready for Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa and “Baxter Day.” The program airs Wednesday, Dec. 25 at 7/6 a.m. on KET.
