For Release: 2014-08-04 16:02:00The next Jubilee features legendary group the Lonesome River Band serving up their patented energetic, up-tempo style of hard-driving bluegrass. The program, filmed at the 2013 Festival of the Bluegrass in Lexington, airs Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 8/7 pm on KET and Saturday, Aug. 30 at midnight/11 pm on KET2. With just over 30 years in the business, Lonesome River Band is one of the most respected names in bluegrass music. Led by multiple-award winning banjo player Sammy Shelor – who was named IBMA’s Banjo Player of the Year 1995-1998 and in 2012 – Lonesome River Band hit the ground running with their breakout 1991 CD Carrying the Tradition. In 2012 they released a widely anticipated three-volume compilation of their many hits entitled CHRONOLOGY Volumes One-Three. Their performance of “Angeline the Baker” from CHRONOLOGY Volume One was named the IBMA Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year in 2012. While Lonesome River Band has withstood numerous personnel changes over its tenure, the constant in the band’s popular sound has been Shelor’s driving banjo style. The group’s current lineup includes Shelor on banjo; Brandon Richman on guitar; Mike Hartgrove on fiddle; Barry Reed on bass; and Randy Jones on mandolin. Jubilee is an Emmy-nominated KET production. Nick Helton is the producer/director and Teresa Day is the executive producer.
