Next on Jubilee from the IBMA Fan Fest in Nashville: J.D. Crowe & The New South, Audie Blaylock and Redline

For Release: 2013-06-25 10:21:00

On the next edition of Jubilee, recorded live at the 2012 International Bluegrass Music Association Fan Fest in Nashville, two acts take the stage: bluegrass legend J.D. Crowe and his group The New South and award-winning vocalist and guitarist Audie Blaylock and his group Redline. The program premieres Tuesday, July 16 at 8/7 p.m. on KET and Saturday, July 20 at 11/10 p.m. on KET2.

Banjoist J.D. Crowe, one of the most influential progressive bluegrass musicians, was influenced early on by Earl Scruggs, as well as rock 'n' roll and the blues. He worked his way through several bands during the 1960s, developing an instrumental style that melded country, bluegrass, rock and the blues.

In the early 1970s, Crowe formed his band The New South, and after the release of the band's debut album in 1972, he became a fixture on the bluegrass scene. Born and raised in Lexington, Ky., Crowe began playing banjo when he was 13.

He has received several IBMA awards during his career, including album of the year in 2007 and instrumental performer of the year for banjo in 1994 and 2004. In addition, he was inducted into the IBMA Hall of Fame in 2003.

Born in El Paso, Texas, Audie Blaylock learned to play guitar and sing with his parents and siblings. He then played locally in the Lansing, Michigan, area where he grew up. In 1982, at age 19, Blaylock joined Jimmy Martin and The Sunny Mountain Boys and spent nine years on the road learning the craft of bluegrass from the music legend.

Blaylock and Redline have been nominated for several IBMA awards, including 2011 album of the year and 2001 emerging artist of the year.
