2013 KET Young Writers Contest winners announced

For Release: 2013-06-10 09:06:00

Young authors across the state were inspired by the fanciful creatures of their imaginations, real canine companions and more in the 2013 KET Young Writers Contest. Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade were invited to submit their original illustrated stories to the annual contest. More than 500 entries were submitted.

Among the first-place winners, two cats, one from the United States and one from Russia, learn about each other’s lives in “The Kitty Correspondence.” Real-life stories of Aggie the Jack Russell terrier inspired “The Misadventures of a Jack Russell.” In “Hole in the Savannah,” a lion prince discovers hidden treasures. Joshua the camel and Circle the giraffe spend a wonderful day together in “A Best Friend,” and in “Titanic the Shark,” 6-year-old Titanic has a little trouble celebrating his birthday. In “Everybody is Special,” Cocoa the rabbit learns that his differences make him special.
