For Release: 2013-03-11 08:14:00The next Louisville Life, hosted by Candyce Clifft, visits the youth organization River City Drum Corps, stops by Nordís Bakery in Germantown, talks with U.S. Representative John Yarmuth, and spotlights the art of Trent Altman. The program premieres Saturday, April 6 at 7/6 p.m. on KET and Thursday, April 11 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. on KET2. Having traveled throughout Kentucky and the United States, River City Drum Corps is one of Kentuckyís premiere youth organizations. Founded in Louisville in 1990 by Ed White, the organization is a non-traditional arts and education program that molds traditional African drumming, percussive music training, performance and cultural education into one focus. Next, the program visits Nordís Bakery, formerly known as Kleins, located in Louisvilleís Germantown neighborhood for the past 70 years. Currently, the bakery is popular for its maple bacon donut, a local favorite that sells out fast and that has even been featured in the New York Times. Also on this Louisville Life, the award-winning work of artist Trent Altman is featured. Altmanís abstract expressionist pieces and mixed media collages shimmer with energy, and they brought him international acclaim in summer 2012 when his work was selected for a United Nations stamp. In the studio, Clifft talks with U.S. Representative John Yarmuth, who represents Kentuckyís 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Currently in his fourth term, Congressman Yarmuth was appointed to the Committee on Budget and the Committee on Education and the Workforce. Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is co-producer, and Angelic Phelps is associate producer.
