Next Louisville Life visits Alley Theatre, Inn at Woodhaven Bed and Breakfast and more

For Release: 2013-03-25 12:22:00

The next Louisville Life, hosted by Candyce Clifft, explores Alley Theatre, the Peace Education Program, the Inn at Woodhaven, and the Louisville Sports Commission. The program premieres Saturday, April 20 at 7/6 p.m. on KET and Thursday, April 25 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. on KET2.

The Alley Theatre, whose mission is to produce progressive theater and to provide an affordable venue for both traditional and experimental artists, strives to include the entire community in its audiences and on its stage. Louisville Life takes a trip to the theater to interview its producer-director Scott Davis.

Next, the program explores the Peace Education Program, which was established in Louisville 30 years ago. It teaches conflict resolution, peer mediation and prejudice reduction, and works to strengthen communities and schools by training youth and adults to build and sustain positive relationships. Today, Peace Education Program impacts 20,000 youth annually and has a network of 88 schools where mediation and/or conflict resolution is practiced every day.

This Louisville Life program also visits the Inn at Woodhaven Bed & Breakfast, a Gothic Revival Mansion built by Theodore Brown in 1853 on a 500-acre tract. The house is listed on the National Register because of its architectural significance, and it was opened to the public as a bed and breakfast in 1993.

In the studio, Clifft talks with Karl Schmitt, the executive director of the Louisville Sports Commission since January 2010. Schmitt has worked previously with Churchill Downs and has experience promoting sports events from the NCAA Final Four Basketball Championship to the PGA Championship.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is co-producer, and Angelic Phelps is associate producer.
