Next Louisville Life features A Reader's Corner Bookstore, Supplies Over Seas and more

For Release: 2013-04-03 10:05:00

The next Louisville Life, hosted by Candyce Clifft, visits Supplies Over Seas, A Readerís Corner Bookstore, and The Scribner House, and sits down with the executive director of the Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft. The program premieres Saturday, May 4 at 7/6 p.m. on KET and Thursday, May 9 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. on KET2.

Each year 10 million children worldwide under the age of five die for lack of basic medical care. Since 1993, Louisville-based Supplies Over Seas has shipped more than 655 tons of medical supplies to 90 countries. The organization meets critical healthcare needs in developing countries by redistributing surplus medical supplies and equipment. Supplies Over Seas partners with hospitals and others to recover and send what would otherwise go to the landfill.

Next, the program heads to A Reader's Corner Bookstore, one of the cityís few remaining independent bookstores. Located in Louisvilleís Clifton neighborhood, the bookstore, owned by Tim and Judy Fout, opened in 1997 and currently stocks more than 50,000 new, used, rare and out-of-print titles.

Louisville Life also heads across the river to New Albany, Ind., to visit the Scribner House, the town's oldest surviving building. It was built in 1814 by Joel Scribner, one of the city's founders, and in 1917, the Piankeshaw Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution purchased it for $1,500. The program highlights how the Piankeshaw Chapter is still devoted to the preservation of this important part of New Albany history.

In the studio, Clifft talks with Aldy Milliken, executive director and chief curator of the Kentucky Museum of Art & Craft.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is co-producer, and Angelic Phelps is associate producer.
