Next Louisville Life features Buschemeyer’s jewelry store, “One Hundred Fascinating Louisville Women,” more

For Release: 2014-02-24 16:26:00

The next Louisville Life, hosted by Candyce Clifft, features a tour of Louisville Water Company’s new museum, the local jewelry store Buschemeyer's, the book One Hundred Fascinating Louisville Women, and the 1917 train collision in Shepherdsville. The program premieres Saturday, March 22 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. on KET and Thursday, March 27 at 7:30/6:30 p.m. on KET2.

At Louisville Water Company, the program takes a tour of the new WaterWorks Museum, which features film, photographs and pieces of the original water system. The museum will be the centerpiece of Louisville Water’s public and school-based tour programs, which currently welcome more than 10,000 people annually to the site.

Next, the program visits Buschemeyer’s, a mom-and-pop jewelry store that opened in 1865 and is located at The Loop in the Highlands neighborhood.

The program also explores a train crash that is still regarded as the worst in Kentucky’s history. In 1917, just days before Christmas, a local passenger train called the “Accommodation” had come to Shepherdsville from Louisville and was bound for Springfield. The train was in the station at Shepherdsville when it was struck from behind by the Cincinnati-to-New Orleans express train “The Flyer,” travelling at about 25 miles an hour.

In the studio, Clifft talks with Nancy Miller, author of the book One Hundred Fascinating Louisville Women, a compilation of personal stories and experiences from women throughout the Louisville community.

Louisville Life is a KET production, produced and directed by Gary Pahler. Jayne McClew is co-producer, and Angelic Phelps is associate producer. More information about Louisville Life, including streaming video, is available at
