With their kazoos, washboards and--of course--jugs in tow, the Juggernaut Jug Band takes the Jubilee stage to share their fun-loving musical mélange.Hailing from Louisville, Ky., the birthplace of jug music--popular in Mississippi and Ohio River cities during the early 20th century--the quartet mixes musical virtuosity and zany showmanship in a style that has made them an institution within the jug band genre.
The Juggernaut Jug Band, which is comprised of Roscoe Goose, The Amazing Mr. Fish, Big Daddy T and World Wide Webb, carries on the proud tradition of jug music, drawing from its roots in blues, country, ragtime, jazz and swing.
The Mountain Express (Asheville, N.C.) lauded their music as "bespeak[ing] a literal fusion of two worlds--a folky organic vibe tempered by the delicacy of academically trained musicianship;" while the Louisville Courier-Journal applauded the group's "street band energy... swinging arrangements... sparkling musicianship [and] wacko sense of humor."
Jubilee is a KET production, produced and directed by H. Russell Farmer. The program is closed-captioned for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Viewers can find out more about programming on KET by visiting the KET Web site at http://www.ket.org.
