Hurst and Raines blow out the bluegrass on the Jubilee stage

For Release: July 12, 2004

J im Hurst and Missy Raines are two of today's most creative and compelling performers in acoustic music. Their unique sound is both sensitive and powerful and has been showcased on national TV shows such as TNN's PrimeTime Country and This Week In Country Music . Jubilee features a performance and interviews with the duo taped at the 2003 Kentucky Lake Bluegrass Festival .

Together, Hurst and Raines draw on their varied musical experiences to create a diverse blend of original acoustic, bluegrass, swing and country blues. Nominated for the 2000 Emerging Artist of the Year Award by the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), the two are rising to the top ranks of bluegrass.

Missy Raines, voted IBMA's Bass Player of the Year in 1998, 1999, 2000 and 2001, was also named the 1999 Bass Fiddle Player of the Year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America. Her musical talents seemingly have no limit as Bluegrass Now magazine readers voted her the 1999 Fans' Choice Bass Player. Raines' solo recording My Place In The Sun was named one of the Top Five Bluegrass recordings of 1998 by the Chicago Tribune and was also nominated for IBMA Instrumental Album of the Year in 1999.

Jim Hurst is the IBMA Guitar Player of the Year for 2001 and 2002 and was featured on the cover of Flatpicking Guitar magazine. Jim has toured with many top artists including Trisha Yearwood and Holly Dunn and was featured most recently on Sara Evans' recording No Place That Far . A single from that album reached #1 on the Billboard Magazine chart.

This duo's ability to cross genres with their music is evidenced by the release of a duet album titled Two . Although described by bluegrass purists as edgy, it has been dubbed a "triumph" by Bluegrass Unlimited Magazine.

Jubilee is a KET production, produced by H. Russell Farmer. Nancy Carpenter is executive producer. The program is closed-captioned for the deaf and hard-of-hearing. Viewers can find out more about programming on KET's six digital channels by visiting the KET Web site at www.ket.org .
