This edition of Jubilee, taped at the 2004 J.D. Crowe and the New South Bluegrass Festival in Wilmore, Ky., spotlights two bands from the festival’s Central Kentucky neighborhood.
Bluegrass 101, from Bardstown, features Terry Waldridge, Clint Craven, Mark Royal, Jim Armstrong, and Randy Saltsman. They’ve been playing hard-driving bluegrass music together for 12 years, appearing with well-known artists such as Ricky Skaggs and Doyle Lawson. Bluegrass 101 received first place in Owensboro’s 2003 Bluegrass Battle of the Bands.
Hailing from Wilmore itself are brothers Joshua Hamblin and Nathan Bray, who make up Southern Sun along with friends Tim Hale and Steve Gibbs. This band is known for driving bluegrass rhythms, smooth harmonies and creative lyrics.
Jubilee is a KET production, distributed to public television stations nationwide. Jubilee is directed by H. Russell Farmer. The series is produced by Duncan Hart. Nancy Carpenter is executive producer. More information about KET programming and education services, as well as how to support KET, can be found at www.ket.org.
