One to One with Bill Goodman:
Pearse Lyons
aired June 23 and 25, 2006
Pearse Lyons, founder of Kentucky-based multinational biotechnology corporation Alltech, is Bill Goodman’s guest on this edition of One to One.
Based in Nicholasville, Alltech Biotechnology employs more than 1,700 people in 85 countries around the world in researching and producing all-natural animal nutrition supplements for animal health, performance, and productivity.
A native of Ireland, Lyons received degrees from University College, Dublin and a Ph.D. from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. He worked for some of the largest brewers and distillers in Ireland, the UK, and the United States before founding Alltech in the early 1980s, when creating ethanol for fuel from corn was all the rage. After supplying yeast and enzyme products to the alcohol industry, Lyons realized that the principles of yeast technology could also be applied to the animal feed industry. Today Alltech is a global leader in the animal health industry, with annual sales exceeding $300 million.
