One to One with Bill Goodman:
Karen Engle

aired January 26 and 28, 2007

Karen Engle, executive director of Operation UNITE, talks about the organization’s efforts to combat drug abuse on this edition of One to One.

Launched in April 2003 by U.S. Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers, Operation UNITE—Unlawful Narcotics Investigations, Treatment and Education—aims to rid communities of unlawful drug use through both law enforcement and outreach. Its methods range from conducting undercover narcotics investigations to coordinating treatment for substance abusers, providing support to families and friends of drug users, and educating the public about the dangers of drugs. Operation UNITE was created in response to a 2003 Lexington Herald-Leader special report entitled “Prescription for Pain” and serves the 29 counties of Kentucky’s 5th Congressional District.
