One to One with Bill Goodman:
Bluegrass State Games
aired July 13 and 15, 2007
Chris Corbin, executive director of Get Healthy Kentucky, and Rick Hatcher, president of the Lexington Area Sports Authority and member of the board of directors for the Bluegrass State Games, are Bill Goodman’s guests on this edition of One to One.
Get Healthy Kentucky is operated by the Governor’s Office of Wellness and Physical Activity. Its mission is to help Kentuckians lead healthier, more active lives and to improve the overall quality of life in the Commonwealth. Those goals led to the program’s sponsorship of the 2007 Bluegrass State Games, an annual event that draws thousands of amateur Kentucky athletes of all ages and skill levels to compete in a broad range of sporting competitions.
Hatcher discusses not only the Bluegrass State Games, but also his role in the creation of LASA, the first sports commission in Kentucky, in 1998. Since then, the organization has assisted in marketing, promoting, and hosting such projects as Cincinnati’s bid for the 2012 Olympics, Kentucky’s successful effort to land the World Equestrian Games 2010, and the NAIA men’s and women’s national tennis championships, among others.
Program Note: KET will air a half-hour program of highlights from the summer 2007 Bluegrass State Games on Thursday, August 23 at 5:00/4:00 pm CT on KET2 and on Saturday, August 25 at 3:00/2:00 pm CT on KET1.
