One to One with Bill Goodman:
Matt Fellowes

aired July 27 and 29, 2007

Matt Fellowes of the Brookings Institution, an adjunct professor of public policy at Georgetown University in Washington, talks about poverty in Kentucky with host Bill Goodman on this edition of One to One.

Fellowes is the author of the report The High Price of Being Poor in Kentucky, in which he reveals that Kentucky’s working families frequently pay a premium for everyday necessities because of patterns of business location. Lower-income workers are also more likely to pay double-digit interest rates for auto loans and other financial services.

An expert in consumer finances, financial services policy, U.S. social policy, and Gulf Coast recovery, Fellowes holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a master’s in public policy from Georgetown University. In the interview, Goodman and Fellowes discuss his research on poverty in America, credit reports and scores, and the post-hurricane rebuilding effort along the Gulf Coast.
