Host Bill Goodman sits down for separate conversations with the two major-party nominees for governor in the November 2007 election on this edition of One to One.

Incumbent Gov. Ernie Fletcher became Kentucky’s first Republican governor in 32 years when he was elected in 2003. A licensed family physician and former Air Force pilot, he served one term in the Kentucky House of Representatives and two terms in Congress representing Central Kentucky’s 6th District. He is a native of Mount Sterling and holds engineering and medical degrees from the University of Kentucky.

Attorney Steve Beshear, the Democratic challenger, served three terms in the Kentucky House of Representatives before being elected attorney general in 1979. After four years in that office in the administration of Gov. John Y. Brown Jr., he went on to serve as lieutenant governor for Gov. Martha Layne Collins from 1983 to 1987. A native of Dawson Springs, Beshear received his bachelor’s and law degrees from UK.
