Rep. John Yarmuth

U.S. Rep. John Yarmuth (D-3rd) discusses his service on various congressional committees, his work in journalism and the media, and the challenges and opportunities facing the Louisville area on this edition of One to One with host Bill Goodman.

Yarmuth was elected to represent the 3rd District, which encompasses much of Louisville Metro, in 2006. Before entering politics, he founded the Louisville Eccentric Observer (LEO), a free weekly newspaper, in 1990. He is a native of Louisville and a 1965 graduate of Atherton High School, where he was student government president. He received a degree in American studies from Yale University in 1969. Yarmuth is also the founder and president of the Center for Kentucky Progress, a progressive think tank on Kentucky issues.

In 2004, Yarmuth was named Person of the Year by the Louisville Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. He also serves as a director of the Jewish Community Center, the Society of Professional Journalists, Planned Parenthood, and the Louisville Forum.
