One to One with Bill Goodman:
Ed McMahon

premiered December 17, 2007

Ed McMahon, of The Tonight Show and Star Search fame, sits down with host Bill Goodman on this edition of One to One to discuss his career and longevity in the entertainment industry.

McMahon talks about his Kentucky connections, including a notable trip to the Derby with former Gov. John Y. Brown; his new book, When Television Was Young: The Inside Story with Memories by Legends of the Small Screen; his early entertainment career; and his days as a military pilot.

The release of Johnny Carson-era Tonight Show programs on DVD has created a whole new generation of fans for the show. McMahon tells Goodman about some unexpected encounters with his new teenaged fans and offers some advice for young people hoping to begin careers in entertainment. He also recalls some memorable moments from The Tonight Show—including actor Ed Ames’ infamous tomahawk mishap.
