One to One with Bill Goodman:
Randy Dunn
premiered August 17, 2008
Dr. Randy Dunn, president of Murray State University, is the guest on this edition of One to One with Bill Goodman.
Before coming to MSU, Dunn served as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and college professor in Illinois and as a professor at Memphis State University. He talks with Goodman about his impressions of Kentucky, including the state’s national reputation as a leader in education reform, Murray State’s consistently high level of quality, and the growing momentum of what he refers to as “quality of life factors”—health, arts, culture, and economic development—around the Commonwealth.
Dunn also discusses the sense of community on the MSU campus. Blogs, clubs, ministries, and engaging professors, he says, provide opportunities for students to feel connected and form lasting relationships with the university. One of the major challenges he faces is retaining that strong sense of community while significantly expanding enrollment.
Finally, Dunn discusses his desire to use the influence of the university to improve the lives of all Kentuckians, not just to prepare MSU students for careers.
