  • Tuesday, December 2 at 7:30/6:30 pm CT on KET2

On this edition of One to One with Bill Goodman, Kris Kimel discusses the frontiers of knowledge as well as one of his own creations: the annual Idea Festival.

Kimel is president of the Kentucky Science and Technology Corporation, a private nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing scientific education and research and technological innovation in Kentucky. The KSTC sponsors workshops and conferences and brings together various partners for research projects and educational initiatives. Kimel, a University of Kentucky graduate, is a frequent speaker on science and technology policy and entrepreneurship.

In 2000, Kimel’s passion for innovation found a new outlet with the Idea Festival, a multi-day event designed to celebrate and promote creative thinking. The speakers, presenters, and performers come from a wide range of fields—education, the arts, science, film, business, and more—and are chosen for their ideas and their ability to communicate them. The events take place across multiple venues in Louisville. And in order to attract as diverse an audience as possible, as many as possible are free. In his conversation with Goodman, Kimel gives some history of the festival and talks about connections that have arisen from it.
