Michael Carter, president of Campbellsville University, is the guest on this edition of One to One with Bill Goodman.
Campbellsville was recently named one of the South’s best baccalaureate colleges by U.S. News & World Report. Founded in 1906, Campbellsville University is affiliated with the Kentucky Baptist Convention and has an enrollment of 2,601 students. Carter discusses the national recognition, the university’s Christian mission, and recent successes and challenges.
Carter has served as president of Campbellsville since 1999. He was provost and vice president for academic affairs, as well as professor of sociology, at Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN, from 1985 until he became president of Campbellsville. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Marshall University. He did additional graduate study at Andover-Newton Theological School in Newton Centre, MA, and received his doctorate from Ohio State University.
He was recently named to Gov. Steve Beshear’s President’s Advisory Committee of the Higher Education Work Group, which is studying ways to make a college education more affordable.
