A Doula Story

Loretha Weisinger, a fiercely committed young African-American woman, has returned to the disadvantaged Chicago neighborhood where she once struggled as a teenage mother to help other young women by serving as a doula-a trained educator, mentor, and advocate for young mothers-to-be. Using patience, compassion, and humor, she teaches her girls the skills and knowledge they need to become confident, nurturing mothers, from the importance of breast-feeding and reading to their babies to how to communicate with health care professionals.
