This professional development course for elementary and middle school teachers is designed to deepen teachers' own understanding of the major ideas in measurement and provide ideas for applying the concepts in the classroom. Topics include procedures for measuring, standard units in the metric and customary systems, the relationships among units, the approximate nature of measurement, and how measurement can illuminate other mathematical concepts-such as irrational numbers, properties of circles, and area and volume formulas.
