Making Meaning in Literature: A Workshop for Teachers, Grades 6-8

Eight middle school teachers from around the country talk about how they encourage their students to become active and effective readers, building strong mental muscles as they place themselves in the world of a text, form impressions of the work, and pose questions that help further their understanding. In addition to classroom examples, the programs include commentary by noted educational researcher Dr. Judith Langer, who coined the term envisionments to describe the ever-expanding landscapes of understanding formed by effective readers as they read and talk about a text.
