A historical overview of theories and models of atomic structure, from the ancient Greeks to the present day. The evolution of the modern model of the atom is traced by examining Dalton's atomic model, Thomson's raisin-bun model, Rutherford's nuclear model, Bohr's quantum model, and finally the wave-mechanical model of Heisenberg and Schrödinger.
