The New Ballgame

For more than 100 years, communities in rural America have formed their identities partly through sports-especially baseball. But young people are fleeing small towns, and so are teams. Baseball is now such big business that many small markets can no longer afford to keep even minor-league professional teams afloat. A trip through the Midwest, Texas, and Mexico looks at whether mom-and-pop baseball franchises will be able to hold on.
