Second to None: The Larry Doby Story

Details the little-known trials and triumphs of one of the true pioneers of civil rights in America. On July 5, 1947, a mere 11 weeks after Jackie Robinson integrated the National League, Larry Doby became the first African American to play in the American League. The 23-year-old Doby had been the premier player in baseball's Negro Leagues. Despite showerings of insults and jeers from the stands, opposing players, and even his own teammates, Doby became the catalyst for a championship, batting .400 that September. His home run in Game 4 of the 1948 World Series catapulted the Indians to their first Series win in 28 years and made Doby the first black member of a world championship team.
