Wilgus Stories

A captivating trilogy of short films about Wilgus Collier, son of a coal miner in Eastern Kentucky, as he journeys to adulthood. In these stories by Kentucky author Gurney Norman, the shape of the young man's life is described through encounters at three different ages: with a fast-talking trickster at age 9, with a hell-raising uncle at age 14, and with the woman of his adolescent dreams at 23-when she is 37. Starring Ned Beatty and a powerful ensemble of previously unknown actors, the film was adapted by director Andrew Garrison from Norman's critically acclaimed story cycle Kinfolks. This glimpse into the life of one young man illuminates the universal experiences of love, loss, and finding one's way in the world.
