Your Child with Special Needs:
Public School Resources
The federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act made historic changes in the education that children with special needs receive. What services does the law require schools to provide students with special needs? Where do parents go for information about getting special education services for their children?
In this program, representatives from the Kentucky Department of Education, the director of special education of a Kentucky school district, and two parents of children with special needs answer these questions and address other topics in an hour-long look at how to successfully access special education resources from preschool through grade 12.
Program Topics
- who is eligible to receive special education services
- a review of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act
- the difference between IDEA and a 504 plan
- entry into the special education system: the purpose of the Admissions and Release Committee, or ARC
