Getting a license can be exciting for a teenage driver.
However, driving also means being responsible for a 2,000-pound hunk of steel.
Program 1 covers the mystique of the automobile, basic driving skills, and the rules
of the road.
Amy Burnett was rushing home from work when it happened. Saving just five minutes seemed
very important to her - at the time. She glanced reassuringly at her radar detector as
she sped along the back roads. Weaving in and out of traffic, Amy passed anyone who
could possibly slow her down. Almost there . . . just over this next hill, then . . .
Suddenly, Amy's car went airborne. When her car touched down she overcorrected the
steering and, in a panic, slammed on the gas pedal instead of the brake, as many
inexperienced drivers are apt to do. Her car rolled four times.
Amy sits in her wheel chair - paralyzed from the waist down - as she relates this story
to KET producer Janet Whitaker. Amy hopes others may learn from her mistake.
