Tour of Belle’s Brig

The Brig

In the early days of the Belle’s life, the world was a wilder place. If someone on the boat became a danger to themselves or others, they were locked in this cage which was really a small jail. The newspaper photo with Captain “Doc” Hawley was taken onboard in 1971. The brig was on the Belle until the 1990s. It was then given to the Howard Steamboat Museum where it can be seen on their grounds today.
