Learning about coal for this project has been an exciting adventure so far, and the best is yet to come. Our live meeting December 5 is coming soon. I think it will be one of the most action-packed field trips you’ll ever experience. Together we’re going to explore surface and underground coal mines.
Recently, an experienced miner took some of us from KET on a preview tour underground. It’s really neat down there. The picture in my mind was all wrong. I thought it would be like my closet: dark, crowded, and a little scary. But actually it was light, spacious, and very exciting. You’ll see what I’m talking about.
You’ll also see a surface mine operation in action. We’ll look at giant, amazing earth-moving equipment. One machine is almost the size of a football field! Can you imagine driving a machine that’s bigger than your house? You’ll see how it works.
