Electronic Field Trip A Pig Farm
A tour of the Thomas family's farm in Elizabethtown, a family enterprise where the kids have major responsibilities in the farming operation, for a look at how pigs are raised. Topics of discussion include right-to-farm laws, urban encroachment on farmland, animal waste disposal, pigs' intelligence and behavior, and what it's like to grow up on a farm. A 1997 co-production of KET, the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, and the Kentucky Farm Bureau.
During this one-hour visit, family members show us around the farm and answer questions like these:
- Why do they raise pigs?
- What role does the veterinarian play in the operation?
- What’s a day on the farm like for kids?
