Episode description: Explores some of the factors that have put many Americans—from the working poor to the traditionally affluent—on an economic roller coaster, leaving them vulnerable to financial disaster. The case studies include a profile of John Ryan of Wilmore, a former corporate lawyer now working at the University of Kentucky who has had eight jobs in the past decade because of layoffs caused by downsizing. His experience mirrors a 30-year pattern of cuts in benefits and worker protections that has shifted financial risk from government and business onto average Americans. [cc]
