Details

A course for middle and high school teachers designed to strengthen their knowledge of American history, from the Pre-Columbian era through Reconstruction, while exploring the process of historical research and analysis. Each video program includes an overview of the historical era; a "Faces of America" segment in which biographies of individuals illustrate larger events; and a behind-the-scenes look at how history is studied, documented, and presented.

Mapping Initial Encounters #102
Columbus' arrival launched an era of initial encounters among Europeans, Native Americans, and Africans that continued for nearly 300 years. These contacts began the phenomenon now known as the Columbian Exchange, profoundly altering the way of life of peoples around the globe.
